Mrs Attenborough Phyllis is a long time friend who I met thirty years ago, she taught me Japanese calligraphy and was responsible for my eventual entrance into university. Phyllis’s art work is detailed (unbelievably so!) and very traditional in style, she works mostly in water color and pen & ink, but loves new approaches to art, including etching. Now in a nursing home, and very frail, she kindly gave me permission to include some reproductions of her work in this book, she also gave me a music book from the 1950’s that she owned and would glue pictures into. She is a very generous woman so I was very surprised to learn though the sticker book that she loved boxing, particularly Australian. This book is dedicated to her.

BOOK FOR BERYL Mrs Kitching, my friend and mentor, Beryl is an artist with amazing ability to record in her work the details that most miss. A traveler who over many years has ventured far and near around Australia collecting as she travels, small items, namely seed pods, plants and unusual objects. Consider an niveve artist, she avoids the over stated tritadional abroach to her work, surrendering to the essentials only. Over the years she has educated myself and other to the smallest of details about plants and their incredible history and at times pointed out the other sides of beauty, some plants can kill. I can honestly say with her my world would be boring. Through out our long relationship we have made paper from rags, visited galleries where most of the time we were asked to leave, Beryl s enthusiasm for analysing art often led to us being asked to leave for touching.
