Architecture Stephanie Turnbull Linocut 4/10 Steph Unusual choice for a girl from Wales, Stephanie's linocut sweeps up and beyond the book covers to form the shapes of the Harbour Bridge with the sails of the opera house in the foreground.  Printed in the cool colour of steel, this book this is a strong work and is well suited to the subject of architecture. Tic Tac Tictac, 'some windows never open' mixed media, 5/10 Textural paper with large open windows cut and folded over to form the book, gives the appearance of building material. Large areas are cut to form windows, but are blocked by what appears to be framed photographs with a misty outlook, embellished with black and red markers, the works takes on a mysterious air. Well constructed and thought out book. Asemic writing artist book exchange, national and international. Asemic writing  is a wordless open semantic form of  writing . The word  asemic  means "having no specific semantic content", or "without the smallest unit of meaning". With the non-specificity of  asemic writing  there comes a vacuum of meaning, which is left for the reader to fill in and interpret. Asemic writing - Wikipedia Having spent some time at a remote  gas plant when restrictions on access and information was in place I started a fictitious series of works titled 'words in nature and post cards from gillmore'.  These works where hand written  and contain images of insects and plants found around the plant, a secret book whose words and images are yet to be giving meaning. catherine mccue boes Cinzia's delicate and creative book arrived also. Using papers, hand and stamped text imposed with strips of soft blue and cream papers, t...

What makes an artist book?

Image
Artist books What makes an artist book? Artist books are an expressive medium, often in a great variety of forms these books take time to produce and for some, even longer to appreciate.   Some may find artists’ books hard to comprehend as a work of art, the artist book, after all, is at a disadvantage when compared to other art forms, for example a painting.  The artists’ book by its very nature usually has to be opened or even handled to be appreciated, other art forms may be displayed in their entirety, whereas the artist book contains many aspects that are neither easy to display nor value. Artist books are not a unique idea, the practice of incorporating images and text stems back to William Blake (1757 -1827) .     Many modern masters, such as Picasso, Leger and Kokoschka to name only a few, presented and participated in the making of artist books.  Artist books over the past century have become more than a collection of pages in sequence, with or without ...

The reason behind her disappearance has remained a mystery; some say after a dispute with her husband over another woman she suffered amnesia caused by stress or in part due to her mother death. Whatever the real story is we may never know, but makes for a great mystery. A beautiful book.

The other Rorschach is a fictional character who wears an inkblot facemask in black & white. Outlined in this intriguing artist book is the story of the two seemingly opposites Rorschach’s. I found myself engrossed by the story and the inkblots that I tried to decipher, a fascinating book.

Collecting prosthetic eyes and limbs should   be everyone’s dream but more importantly, the dissecting of library books reminds me of my own childhood. This artist book is a wonderful combination of images, text and imagination;

This artist book gives us a glimpse of someone, a person, who likes comfortable but not too fashionable foot apparel, loves to dance, has a keen interest in Freud but is afraid of drafts, thunder and lightning along with cattle and moths, (just wondering if SHE received a copy of Stephanie’s Turnbull story)  SHE also loves to exercise, well maybe in moderation, may have poor eyesight, hates housewo...
