Small works wide vision. Group exhibition 1992

Image
”Small Works, Wide Vision”: A Curated Exhibition Redefining the Art Experience For most artists, particularly those involved in group exhibitions, maintaining a catalogue of the works is a fundamental responsibility. However, for me, it transcends the role of a keepsake; it serves as a poignant reminder of the exhilaration of participating in such exhibitions. These exhibitions often impose a restricted scale on the artwork, creating an intimate and immersive experience for the viewer. Curated in 1992 by Tony McCulkin, the exhibition showcased a who’s who of the art world, featuring intriguing works by renowned artists such as Barbara Hanrahan, Wim de Vos, and Julie Haas. Other notable participants included Rick Amor, Noel McKenna, Dean Bowen, Anneke Silver, Ann Lord, Ron McBurnie, Christina Cordero, Graeme Peebles, Doug Spowart, Deborah Walker, Sebastian di Mauro, and local artist Sheena Walsh. It was a thought-provoking exhibition. It would be remarkable to revisit the co...

Mokulito how to

Image
Catherine Mc Cue  One hundred and thirty kilometres from Eronmanga, south west of Queensland is a gas plant, where working as an artist in residence I was free to explore the landscape in and around the plant.  My main interest was in the visual contamination of the surrounding landscape. The images produced use techniques such as mokulito, ‘wood lithography’, monoprint and digitally altered photography. Steel Landscape depicts the harsh landscape that surrounds the plant, the work focuses on the disused material from the plant, now embedded in the dry earth, which in a way has become an accidental sculptural form.  Steel Landscape Mokulito This one was a little different to the others, I did the same preparation as the others, sand, milk, draw add a little nitric  to the gum, but left the plate a lot longer than usual due to unforeseen circumstances. This work also included the use of mono printing to form the background colour, using a cl...

Book as art, solo exhibition by Catherine Mccue Boes BRAG

END of the exhibition. What an event! I am immensely pleased with the manner in which this work was presented. With the invaluable assistance of volunteers and my esteemed friend Gail, we successfully curated an extraordinary display of books and images that encapsulates thirty years of my artistic endeavours. The exhibition provided a platform to showcase the works from my extensive collection. As a book artist, I have been fortunate to be part of a national and international group of artists. Through our exchange programme, we have not only broadened my perspective but also deepened my knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by other artists. I extend my sincere gratitude to these individuals for allowing their work to be exhibited alongside mine. The conclusion of an exhibition that has spanned two years brings a sense of melancholy. The absence of a fan fair and the immediate packing up of the work leave a void. However, I am resolute in my determination to continue...
