Artist book

2019 artist hanging book, using metal advertisement printing blocks, hand printed onto Japanese paper.

In the era of advertising, metal plates were employed to promote brands or clothing styles, particularly designed to be positioned alongside text in newspaper advertisements. These hot metal plates, once prevalent, have been replaced by polymer plates. These discarded objects hold a fascination for me, and I collect them whenever possible. The intention is to reinvent and repurpose them, as exemplified by the ‘male sampler’ handprinted on Japanese paper, paying homage to both the past and present printmaking industry.
