On the road to the German border

Left Reims Tuesday 20-07 heading for the German border, we have decided to take the slow route (with assistance of the GPS ) on the back roads through all the towns and villages and finding it very pleasant but slow as Cathy wants to stop everywhere. We ended up last night in Pont-a-Mousson near Nancy staying in a Abby which has one wing converted to a hotel , room was ok but no air conditioning so it was very uncomfortable during the night. I think we were the only residents there as we haven’t seen anyone else! There is no restaurant close by so we picked up some local cheese, pâté and a bottle of red wine and sat by the river in a private garden behind the Abby and enjoyed the quietness.

Whatever the real story is we may never know, but makes for a great mystery. A beautiful book.

The sand melts into the blue/green of the Australian bush, topped by clear blue sky. On opening the book, a pop out portrait of a young child sits comfortable on the sand, a cut out shadow hints at the intensity of the summer sun, a stitched and drawn line takes us to another pop out of a sewing machine, in bold red, blue and yellow, indicating an interested in the making of things.  Whimsic...

Mokulito studio work

Another two plate wood lithograph, this image was processed using gum only, left to dry for three days, the results where very good when compared with the first image which was etched using gum acid mix on a pre milked sanded board. The other aspect of this process is the cutting out of areas of the plywood to create a white areas, which I liked.   It has been  an interesting start to the new year, been busy trying out different techniques for wood lithography and I am seeing some great works being created. The work so far are based on the Girls Own series started in 2018, the first imaged produced using Mokulito is inspired by Harriet, an antislavery campaigner and Clara, who is said to have created the Red Cross association. Both works have been produced by using Luna wood, two plates each and added chine collie. Some where printed as single plate edition and the other as a two plate colour run.
