mokulito test plate

Norma with red Bird The latest work using plywood, the work printed up well, I  used chine collie on some of the images, other will be hand coloured. The plate was covered in gum for a long time, four weeks, with no ill effects. Using the transfer blue paper, the image was first drawn from a a life model, photograph and reworked using computer software. The image was then printed directly onto the blue litho transfer paper with a large format printer. Then the  image is placed on the plywood and run through the etching press, firm pressure to transfer the image to the plate I could have  worked on the blue paper with litho pencils and crayons and ink,  then when finished simply transfer to the plate, coat with gum and leave for a few days, but I like to draw directly on the plywood as I enjoy the process, also love to cut out areas to produce pure white. This time, when finished with the printing I rolled up in ink and recoated with gum only, idea being I ...

The secret lives of girlfriends second state prints.  Ok after two years of working on a collaboration project with writer/artist Sue Hutton, we are finally getting it together, eight of the images are nearing completion and sue has provided short stories for each. The aim is to create another seven works with text and then self publish the finished product. this will be an ARTIST BOOK. This is a book that contains original images and text  specifically created for the purpose of making and hand printing a book made by artist and author.   We are hoping to  exhibit  the  finished work in 2020. There will be 13 images with five more to complete, the finished works may differ from these as the work progresses.

Hybrid printmaking

Image
As part of the on going work for Girls Own I  am venturing into another area of hybrid printmaking, starting with a drawing, transferred onto a lithographic stone, draw up in the usual manner but introducing a pre digital print on to the lithograph, The idea is to create a work  that will hopefully combine texture with that of the drawn image produced in litho. The success of this work will depend on the quality of the pre digital image printed directly onto the printmaking paper first then over printed on to the stone, well thats the idea.                                                      Title NK bride wearing Kims boots 2019

Hybrid printmaking

Image
As a printmaker I find it hard to accept that the only way is to be a purest, that is only use traditional methods and techniques to produce  prints. While trying to support my arts practice, I ventured into the world of digital and large format printing. Making a living from my art  was imposable, so I produced archival prints  for photographers and artists to support my practice .  I was fascinated with, this way of printing, so began my research into the possibilities of mixing traditional printmaking with that of digital. As a student at university  I was introduced to photography and loved it but didn't connect printmaking with the possibility of mixing the two together to produce hybrid prints until later in my career. One hundred and thirty kilometers from Eronmanga, south west of Queensland is a gas plant, where working as an artist in residence I was free to explore the landscape in and around the plant. The 'Steel landscape' is a work that evok...
