Hybrid printmaking


Hybrid experimental printmaking.


As part of the ongoing work for Girls Own, I am exploring another area of hybrid printmaking. I am beginning with a drawing, transferring it onto a lithographic stone. I will draw up the usual manner, but I will introduce a pre-digital print onto the lithograph. The objective is to create a work that will hopefully combine the texture of the drawn image produced in lithography with the texture of the lithograph itself. The success of this work will depend on the quality of the pre-digital image printed directly onto the printmaking paper before being overprinted onto the stone.

The reason behind her disappearance has remained a mystery; some say after a dispute with her husband over another woman she suffered amnesia caused by stress or in part due to her mother death. Whatever the real story is we may never know, but makes for a great mystery. A beautiful book.

Linocut, first state, Saint Catherine the fish keeper.

Saint Catherine, the Fish Keeper  Catherine is not a saint; she is the caretaker of fish that demand significant attention and resources. She desires to release them, but she keeps them for someone she loves, and their departure would cause them distress. Nevertheless, if she were able to capture and release them, her own life would also be liberated. Linocut, gold leaf, chine colle  40x37 cm edition 10   The idea for this work wasn’t difficult; anyone who knows me well will understand the irony in it.

The sand melts into the blue/green of the Australian bush, topped by clear blue sky. On opening the book, a pop out portrait of a young child sits comfortable on the sand, a cut out shadow hints at the intensity of the summer sun, a stitched and drawn line takes us to another pop out of a sewing machine, in bold red, blue and yellow, indicating an interested in the making of things....
